The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the San Marino Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority
In San Marino, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia and the Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority of the Republic of San Marino - “Autorità Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali”. The memorandum was signed by the President of the San Marino Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority, Dr. Umberto Rapetto and the President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili.
Cooperation is aimed at organizing events, conferences, seminars, and study visits focused on sharing best practices in the field of personal data protection, as well as, sharing information on the implementation of national legislation and European standards and exchanging experts for mutual professional development.
At the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili spoke about the importance of cooperation between the personal data protection supervisory bodies, the participation of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia in international sectoral platforms and networks, and gratefully noted the support of the San Marino counterpart supervisory body to the Service.
During the opening section of the ceremony, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of San Marino, Marco Gatti, and the Director of the Directorate of European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Economic Cooperation and Telecommunications, Luca Brandi, emphasized the importance of sharing Georgia's experience in the European integration process for the Republic of San Marino. This is particularly relevant as San Marino is in the process of concluding an Association Agreement with the European Union.
President of the Data Protection Supervisory Authority of the Republic of San Marino, Dr. Umberto Rapetto, particularly noted the importance of cooperation with the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia and expressed his readiness to share best practices to carry out joint activities. The Vice President of the Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority of the Republic of San Marino, Patrizia Gigante, also emphasized the signing of the first Memorandum of Understanding over the course of the existence of the San Marino Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority and the importance of cooperation with the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia in terms of sharing best practices. She also spoke about the participation of the San Marino Supervisory Authority in international platforms and the expansion of international relations in the future.
The signing ceremony of the memorandum of cooperation was also attended by the head of the International Relations, Analytics and Strategic Development Department of the Personal Data Protection Service and the Vice President of the San Marino Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority, Elia Santi and the employees of the agency. After the signing ceremony, a working meeting was held to discuss the mandate of the personal data protection supervisory bodies and the main directions of their activities.
