The President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia attends the plenary meeting of the "European Data Protection Board" ("EDPB")
The President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, is attending the plenary meeting of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), held on December 2-3 in Brussels.
During the 99th regular plenary meeting, the Board will discuss the adoption of guidelines on the transfer of data to third countries under Article 48 of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, as well as the activities of one of the working groups of the Board, which focuses on the connection between data protection and law. Additionally, among other topics, the meeting will address the European Commission's second report on the implementation of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. Ana Tokhadze, head of the Department of International Relations, Analytics and Strategic Development of the Service will also represent the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia at the meeting.
It is important to mention that the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia participates in the activities of the European Data Protection Board as an observer. This status was granted by the decision of the members of the Board on 20 June 2002. The board plays an essential role in the effective protection of personal data protection regulations across the EU and in establishing consistent and best practices for data protection supervisory authorities. In particular, the Board takes binding decisions, publishes opinions, advises the European Commission on all matters relating to the protection of personal data in the European Union, and develops guidelines and recommendations.
The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia continues to cooperate with the institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe, implementing the best European practices of personal data protection legislation.
