President of the Personal Data Protection Service Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili met with the Head of the Turkish Personal Data Supervisory Authority Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir


On December 18, in Ankara, the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia and the Turkish Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority held a working meeting. The President of the Service, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, met with the Head of the Supervisory Authority, Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir. The event was also attended by the Head of the Department of International Relations, Analytics, and Strategic Development of the Personal Data Protection Service, Ana Tokhadze, Expert of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority Ahmet Sonmez, Head of the Department of Inspections Tuba Kenidri, and other employees of the Authority.

 During the working meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili outlined the mandate of the Personal Data Protection Service, its main areas of activity, the institutions established under the new Personal Data Protection Law, international relations, and the future plan for the Service's institutional development. She also highlighted that next year, the Personal Data Protection Service will host two major international events: the European Conference of Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authorities (commonly known as the “Spring Conference”) and the meeting of the “International Working Group on Data Protection in Technology” (commonly referred to as the “Berlin Working Group”). As a result, 2025 will be a pivotal year for the Service, marking significant progress in strengthening and deepening international cooperation with fellow supervisory authorities.

The Head of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority, Prof. Dr. Farul Bilir, discussed the mandate and activities of the agency. To share best practices in personal data protection, organize joint events, and establish an inter-agency working platform, the parties agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation in the near future.
