A training session on personal data protection matters was conducted for representatives of law enforcement bodies.
During the meeting, the representatives of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia thoroughly discussed the principles and legal basis of personal data processing, the need to align with the Law of Georgia on Personal Data Protection, as well as specific laws and regulations governing the activities of particular law enforcement bodies. They also covered recent updates to the Law on Personal Data Protection and the challenges arising from the specifics of law enforcement bodies' main functions and responsibilities.
These topics included the prerequisites for the legality of personal data processing, special rules for processing personal data, the rights of data subjects, and peculiarities of personal data processing within law enforcement bodies, among others.
During the training, the head of Law Enforcement Sector Oversight Department, Ia Kipiani, the deputy head of the department, Lika Taniashvili, and lawyer Tamar Revazashvili discussed other important topics of interest to auditors in a discussion format.
The training was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, the Special Penitentiary Service, the Prosecutor’s Office, the National Agency for Crime Prevention, the Execution of Non-custodial Sentences and Probation, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At the end of the meeting, the president of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Lela Janashvili, introduced the participants to the most important updates regarding the service's international activities and the format of consultations, and wished them success in their work.
