International Personal Data Protection Day was celebrated on January 28


The 28th of January is the International Data Protection Day. The event was dedicated to the new Georgian law "On Personal Data Protection" and was opened by the President of the Personal Data Protection Service. Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili gave an overview of the implementation process of the new law and informed the audience about the activities carried out by the Service after the adoption of the law. The President also informed the audience about the achievements of the service the field of international cooperation. It is also important to note that that in 2023 Georgia was granted the observer status of the European Data Protection Board.

The audience was welcomed by the Public Defender of Georgia – Levan Ioseliani and the Chairman of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee – Mikheil Sarjveladze.

In the second part of the event, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili presented the second edition of the Journal of Personal Data Protection Law and a new guideline on the protection of personal data of minors. The service showed video presentations, prepared for the 28 January "Confidentiality is your right" campaign. The videos included the historian - Giorgi Kalandia, the doctor - Nugzar Uberi, the psychologist - Ramaz Sakhvarelidze, the manager of the social network "META" - Mariam Sharangia and the photographer, social scientist - Ana Goguadze, they discussed the inviolability of private information.

The event was attended by 50 attendees, including members of the parliament and representatives of public, private, academic and nongovernmental sectors.
