President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili delivered a speech at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council


Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, President of the Personal Data Protection Service delivered a speech at the 55th session of the UN’s Human Rights Council in Geneva, in an interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy; she made a speech on a new legal regulation on the protection of personal data.

Within the interactive dialogue, a report made by the Special Rapporteur, Dr. Ana Brian Nougrères was discussed. “Legal Guarantees for personal data protection and private life in the digital era.” In a comparative legal context, the report discusses the rights of the data subject and the legal mechanisms for their protection under the national legislation of the States of five different continents.

In the form of an interactive dialogue, representatives of the Member States responded to the issues raised in the Special Rapporteur's report. President of the Personal Data Protection Service, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili spoke about the legislative innovations in the field of personal data protection, including the legal protection mechanisms for data subjects provided for in the new Law of Georgia "On the Protection of Personal Data". At the end of the speech, Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili thanked the Special Rapporteur, Dr. Ana Brian Nougrères, and the UN Human Rights Council and on behalf of the Personal Data Protection Service expressed readiness to cooperate in raising the culture of personal data protection and public awareness.   

“In the rapidly developing digital era, our mission as a Personal Data Protection Supervisory Authority is to deepen the culture of personal data protection and raise public awareness” stated Prof. Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili.
