The Employees of the Personal Data Protection Service Attended an Online Event Held within the Framework of the Public Administration Regional Fund of the Eastern Partnership Project of The German Agency For International Cooperation (GIZ)


On July 21, 2025, an online event was held within the framework of the Public Administration Regional Fund of the Eastern Partnership project, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The event focused on regional activities and planned initiatives in the field of personal data protection.

At the event, Personal Data Protection Service was represented by Nikoloz Popiashvili, Head of the President’s Office of the Service, and Ana Tokhadze, Head of the Department for International Relations, Analytics, and Strategic Development. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the relevant supervisory authorities from Eastern Partnership countries- Moldova, Ukraine and Armenia.

Participants of the meeting shared their experiences on various topics, including the process of obtaining observer status at the European Data Protection Board, as well as recent international activities of the personal data protection supervisory authorities of the project’s beneficiary countries, and other important issues in the sector. The invited guest speaker Olivier Matter, Head of International Relations at the European Data Protection Supervisor, discussed the substantive and technical prerequisites for obtaining observer status at the EDPB as defined by the Board’s regulations.

Representatives of the Personal Data Protection Service shared with the attendees their experience in obtaining observer status at the European Data Protection Board and participating in its plenary sessions.

They also discussed the integration of recommendations, opinions, and standard-setting documents adopted by the Board into the Service’s work. The experience of integrating the recommendations, opinions and standard-setting documents adopted by the Board into the work of the Service was noted.

In addition, representatives of the service provided participants with information on the legal requirements for institutional independence, the methodology for planning the annual budget to implement the strategy for deepening international relations.  They also discussed two major international events hosted and organized by the Personal Data Protection Service: the European Conference of Data protection Authorities and the meeting of the International Working Group on Data Protection in Technology.
