The President of the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia, Dr. Dr. Lela Janashvili, attended the 15th Conference of the Europol Data Protection Experts Network (EDEN) held in Valletta, Malta, on 21–22 October.
The conference is one of the most significant platforms in Europe dedicated to discussing data protection issues in the field of law enforcement. The event brought together heads of European personal data protection supervisory authorities, representatives of law enforcement agencies, data protection officers, members of Europol’s Data Protection Experts Network (EDEN), and representatives of the academia.
The main objective of the conference was to address ongoing challenges in data protection and cybersecurity within law enforcement activities, share best practices, and enhance data protection standards.
During the two-day conference, representatives of various EU institutions delivered presentations on key current trends. Panel discussions focused on the following topics:
The main theme of this year’s conference was “Red Light, Green Light! Reduce Complexity, Increase Speed, Defend EU Values”, reflecting Europol’s strategic objective to ensure operational flexibility, regulatory precision, and the protection of fundamental rights in law enforcement activities. The title, inspired by widely used terminology in the fields of data protection and cybersecurity, highlights the critical impact of data-driven decisions in the context of modern challenges.
