Employees of the Personal Data Protection Service participated in a week of working meetings in Brussels


Employees of the Personal Data Protection Service participated in the week of working meetings in Brussels titled: “Data Protection Academy for the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership Region”.

During the event Nikoloz Popiashvili - Head of the President's Office and Ana Tokhadze - Head of the Department of International Relations, Analytics and Strategic Development talked about the new legal regulation of personal data protection, implementation process of the law and on current trends, they also discussed future plans of institutional development. They highlighted the Strategic tasks of the Service in the next year in deepening international relations through hosting the meetings of the "European Conference on Personal Data Protection" and the "International Working Group on Data Protection in Technology".

In cooperation with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (DG JUST), representatives of the personal data protection supervisory authorities of participating countries discussed the legal regulation, modern practices and the challenges they face. They also talked about uniform enforcement of the “General Data Protection Regulation” of the EU, supervision of the public sector throughout the European Union, On the practices of EUROJUST and EUROPOL and the experience of supervisory authorities in tackling current challenges. Through the event, participants of the Academy met the Chairman of the "European Data Protection Board" ("EDPB"), the Secretary General of the "European Data Protection Supervisor" ("EDPS"), as well as a representative of the data protection supervisory within the Council of Europe (CoE).

The event was carried out with the initiative and support of the “Regional School of Public Administration” (ReSPA), the "Governance and Management Improvement Support" (SIGMA/OECD) program of the European Commission and the OECD, the "Regional Cooperation Council" (RCC), and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), it was accomplished through cooperation with the DG JUST of the European Commission within the “EaP Regional Fund for Public Administration Reform” program.
